Background of the Study
Academic advising plays a crucial role in guiding students through their academic journeys, helping them make decisions about course selection, academic goals, and career paths. However, the traditional manual advising process can be time-consuming and often lacks personalized support. AI-powered chatbots have the potential to provide automated, personalized academic advising to students, making it more efficient and accessible. This study focuses on developing an AI-based chatbot for automated academic advising at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, located in Wamako LGA, Sokoto State.

Statement of the Problem
Academic advising at Usmanu Danfodiyo University is often limited by the availability of academic advisors and the need for personalized, timely support. A chatbot powered by AI can offer immediate, accurate advice to students based on their academic profiles. However, the feasibility and effectiveness of implementing such a system at the university remain unproven.

Objectives of the Study

1. To develop an AI-powered chatbot that provides automated academic advising to students at Usmanu Danfodiyo University.

2. To evaluate the effectiveness of the chatbot in offering personalized, accurate academic advice.

3. To assess students' satisfaction with the AI-based academic advising system.

Research Questions

1. How effective is the AI-powered chatbot in providing personalized academic advice to students?

2. How does the chatbot compare with traditional academic advising methods in terms of accuracy and student satisfaction?

3. What are the challenges in developing and implementing an AI-based academic advising chatbot at Usmanu Danfodiyo University?

Research Hypotheses

1. The AI-powered chatbot will provide accurate and personalized academic advice to students.

2. Students who use the chatbot for academic advising will report higher satisfaction levels than those who rely on traditional advising methods.

3. The development and implementation of the chatbot will face challenges related to data integration, user adoption, and technical limitations.

Significance of the Study
This study will provide valuable insights into the potential of AI-powered chatbots to enhance academic advising at universities. By automating and personalizing academic support, universities can improve the advising process, making it more accessible and efficient for students.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on developing and evaluating an AI chatbot specifically for academic advising at Usmanu Danfodiyo University. Limitations include potential difficulties in training the chatbot to handle complex academic queries and ensuring its integration with existing university systems.
